Highline Headlines - September 05

🎉 First Week Hooray

Welcome back, Highline! The first week of school carries so much promise. Hallways fill with laughter. Classrooms open to possibility. Together, we begin a year of learning, belonging and supporting every student for the future they choose. Check out first day of school highlights and a message from Superintendent Dr. Ivan Duran to hear how becoming a parent in Highline has shaped his leadership and deepened his belief in our shared promise.

🚌  Helping Our Youngest Riders Learn the Bus Routine

Kindergarten students will begin riding school buses on Monday, September 8. School buses may run behind schedule for several days as kindergarten students and their families learn the school bus routine. All kindergarten students must be met at their bus stops by an adult, which sometimes results in delays. Please be patient as we teach our youngest students how to safely ride the bus.

📞 Update Student Contact Information

Your action is required. Each year, families are required to verify student emergency information and submit updated health information. This ensures we have a current home address, phone number, emergency contact and health information on file. All of these items help us keep students safe while at school and are essential for schools to notify you quickly. Here’s how to make your updates

💲 Your CNEEB Application Makes a Difference

Help Highline schools receive important state and federal funding! Submitting an eligible form brings dollars to our schools to help cover additional staff, before- and after-school programs, resources, and reduced fees for athletics, ASB cards, technology, college applications and more. Every form means more support for students and benefits for families. Check eligibility and submit your application today.

Plus, you may also qualify for SUN Bucks to help pay for groceries next summer!

🌭 Burien Brat Trot 2025

Join the Highline Schools Foundation for a family friendly fun run along 152nd St in Downton Burien on Saturday, October 4. Celebrate and raise funds for the students, families and educators of Highline Public Schools. The school with the most participants will win $500! Find more event details

📅 School Board Meeting Schedule

You are welcome to join the Highline School Board and superintendent at a school board meeting. All school board meetings are held at the Central Office, 15675 Ambaum Boulevard SW in Burien, typically every other Wednesday, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 17. All regular board business meetings, work sessions and public hearings are public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.

🍏 What’s Cooking Next Week for School Meals

Next week, we look forward to Teriyaki Beef Dippers with Brown Rice on the lunch menu. School meals are available to all students at no cost this school year. Check out school menus online every Friday (that’s today!) for the following week.
