ParentSquare: New Communication Tool Coming
Effective and clear communication is critical for the success of our students and schools. We are excited to announce that we are adopting a new form of school-to-home communication in Highline called ParentSquare. This communication tool is designed to keep parents and families informed and encourage engagement and connection across Highline. We will launch ParentSquare in August, just in time for back-to-school!
Budget Update: When Costs Exceed Funding
Similar to school districts across our region, we are facing a significant budget shortfall in the coming years due to declining enrollment, rising costs and the end of ESSER funds. Although we are grateful to our state legislators for some funding increases, the additional funding passed this session is far less than our expected expenditures. See a breakdown of the numbers.
Teacher Celebrations Continue
Teacher Appreciation Month continues in Highline. This week we are spotlighting our Outstanding Rookie Teacher of the Year, Gared Contawe who serves as a music teacher at Bow Lake Elementary School. As a first-year music teacher, Mr. Contawe has shown a natural ability to build relationships with his students and design lessons that are engaging and inclusive for all. We’re also shining a spotlight on Glacier Middle School teacher Edissa Jaramillo who empowers students to discover their passions and reach their full potential. 2023 Highline Schools Foundation Scholarship Winners
Highline Schools Foundation (HSF) announced that scholarships totaling $233,000 have been awarded to 34 graduating seniors, including students from Evergreen High School, Highline Big Picture, Highline High School, Mount Rainier High School, Puget Sound Skills Center, Raisbeck Aviation High School and Tyee High School. Awards were presented to students at the 2023 HSF Scholarship Reception this week. Congratulations to the scholarship recipients!
Cloud Computing and Hardware Class Coming to PSSC this Fall
Puget Sound Skills Center is launching a new class in our high school curriculum–Cloud Computing and Hardware. This class is open to juniors and seniors, regardless of their level of technical understanding. It's a great opportunity for those who are considering pursuing careers in IT, computer engineering or other related fields.
