Project Updates: Oversight Committee Tracks Bond Progress

Project Updates: Oversight Committee Tracks Bond Progress
Oversight Committee meeting for quarterly report.

Six community members with construction and finance expertise keep an eye on our 2016 school bond projects. We provide quarterly reports and financial statements to the Oversight Committee and the school board. Get the status on every bond project and other capital projects in this report summary.

So, How Are We Doing?

Thumbs up! We are on schedule to complete all projects within the bond timeline and budget. There have been a few setbacks and puzzles to solve--typical of large construction projects or renovations. Thanks to experienced staff and great partnerships with our architects and contractors, we are on target with the 2016 school bond.

3 Schools Open This Fall

  • Olympic Interim Site--Opening Fall 2019
We are on target to open school at Olympic this fall. Highline High School teachers moved into Olympic after the last day of school on June 25. Early in the project, we encountered some surprises at the Olympic Interim Site that required demolition of most of the center building, which was replaced with new portable classrooms, including new science classrooms.

  • Des Moines Elementary School--Opening Fall 2019
    Des Moines Elementary School
is on schedule for the front office to move in at the Zenith site as early as possible in August.

  • Glacier Middle School--Opening Fall 2019
Weather delays and redesign of a feature in Glacier Middle School's steel structure bumped the steelwork out of line at the mill early on, causing some delay and expense, but our contractor developed a work plan to catch up. We expect Glacier to open on time for the first day of school in September. Some work items may remain to be completed after school starts.

  • Highline High School School--Opening Fall 2021
The new Highline High School is on schedule to open fall 2021. Our general contractor/construction manager Skanska will be on site as soon as possible in July.

Read on for additional updates, including safety and security upgrades, critical needs projects and non-bond capital projects.
