October is Substance Use Prevention Month
Highline students are learning how to make healthy choices and support their peers.
This October, schools are joining the statewide Choose You WA campaign. The program gives students tools to prevent substance use and opens space for real conversations at school.
A King County grant is also making it possible for Innovation Heights Academy (IHA) students to pilot a new program that supports this work. Students there will design prevention campaigns, attend the statewide Prevention Summit, and develop materials that inspire their middle school peers to make healthy decisions.
The work IHA students lead this year will guide how the program expands to more schools over the next three years. The pilot aims to build student leadership skills, grow student confidence, and encourage students to make healthy choices.
While October highlights prevention efforts, this work continues year-round.
