Sylvester Wins Green Medalist Award from Washington Green Schools

Sylvester Teacher Joanna Rodriguez displays Green Medalist Award for Sylvester

Congratulations to the teachers and students of Sylvester Middle School!

Sylvester was recognized as a Green Medalist by Washington Green Schools and featured in the annual (virtual) fundraiser on October 22 for showing leadership in sustainability in their school community.

Former Sylvester student Maya Matta, now a senior at Raisbeck Aviation High School gave a live speech from her home during the virtual program. (Listen to Maya in the fundraiser program video at 38:38.)

Washington Green Schools thanked Sylvester Principal Gil Parsons and several teachers for their leadership in the classroom and in supporting students to create a rain garden and study environmental sustainability. The program spotlighted teachers Katelen Phelan, Raquel Sandoval-Gonzalez and Joanna Rodriguez.

See the video profiling student and teacher voices from Sylvester and telling the story of the rain garden project. The video was filmed before students began Distance Learning this spring.
