Innovation Heights Academy (formerly New Start High School) is transforming student lives through a new program model launched this school year.
At the core of the school's approach are three fundamental principles: credit recovery, wellness and interest-driven learning tailored to each student's post-secondary goals.
Even in its first year of the program model, the school is already seeing remarkable results.
- Average pass rates have increased 10 percentage points.
- Students have more than doubled their credits earned per session.
This success underscores our commitment to Innovative Learning and Culture of Belonging, as outlined in our Strategic Plan.
The program offers a unique blend of academic rigor and personal growth opportunities. For half the day on Monday through Thursday, students engage in project-based learning and classroom learning.
This model gives students the freedom to explore additional learning experiences, such as classes at Puget Sound Skills Center, courses at Highline College or South Seattle College, or to engage in internships and apprenticeships. The flexible schedule also accommodates students who need to dedicate time to other responsibilities such as work, child care or family.
For students facing additional challenges, the school offers tailored support on Fridays. This day is reserved for staff and community partners to work closely with students to help them catch up on grades and address attendance or behavior challenges. This personalized attention ensures that every student has the support they need to succeed.
