A new modular Transportation building is on the way, bringing modern facilities to our bus drivers and dispatchers.

We hosted a pre-bid meeting on January 21 for contractors interested in the site work and coordination required to install a new modular Transportation building. This building will replace the aging facilities currently used by our bus drivers and dispatchers.

Project bids will be opened on February 6 [Updated due to weather: February 11], with notice of award anticipated in March. Construction is expected to be completed this summer. The modular building will be installed in an existing parking area west of the bus garage and Building J, at our Maintenance, Operation and Transportation (MOT) campus at 17810 8th Avenue South in Burien. The MOT campus is adjacent to the north of the Puget Sound Skills Center.

Once finished, the new building will provide a unified space for transportation staff, bringing bus drivers — currently housed in a World War II-era building — together with dispatchers and other team members currently working in a small concrete block building.

To accommodate the construction project, parking for staff and buses will shift. Building L will be demolished once the new, modular building is complete.

Replacing Building L was one of the critical capital improvement projects outlined in the 2022 school bond, as recommended by our community-led Capital Facilities Advisory Committee.
