New Tyee High School Opens its Doors to a New Era
Staff are moving into the new Tyee High School and are excited to welcome students on Titan Day, September 2, and the first day of school, September 3. This 2022 school bond project is on time and on budget.
Furnishing a New Facility
New desks and chairs and the school's Promethean panels were waiting in classrooms to support student learning from math and language arts to environmental studies and health sciences.

Gym floors are striped in Tyee colors and the Tyee Titan's athletic logo.

Machines used in the Core Plus Construction program were arriving for the wood shop.

Teacher Antje Brewer was especially impressed by the school’s sustainable features, like repurposed wood gym floors now lining the walls outside the new gym. Antje said she appreciated that concrete from the original Tyee was recycled on site as base material under the new school.
Wood glu-lam beams from the original school were installed in the roof deck of the new library. On the roof, a 75-kilowatt solar panel installation will help supply power.
A geothermal loop buried under the new athletic field (240 wells that each descend 350 feet below the field) connects to an electric pump with supply and return pipes, to heat or cool the new building.
Next Steps
Crews are hard at work finishing details on a punch list, including the central courtyard and field landscaping, final cleaning inside, and the paving of the main driveway from South 188th Street.
A community grand opening is being planned for October. More information will be shared soon.
