Explore 6-8 Science Curriculum
In Spring 2023, we piloted two programs for new Science 6-8 instructional materials: OpenSciEd and Twig Science Next Gen. We plan to adopt one of these programs as our official 6-8 Science curriculum. Both programs support the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for K-12 science that have been adopted as the Washington State Science Learning Standards. Both programs have print and online resources for students are available in English and Spanish. Because all materials are available online, students can also use digital tools to translate both programs into other languages.
We would love to hear your thoughts on how these two programs might meet the needs of our students and community and how they can be improved. Learn more about these two programs below and click the link to share your feedback below.
Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
These standards enable teachers to offer all students interactive instruction that promotes analysis and interpretation of data, critical thinking, problem solving, and connections across science disciplines— with a high set of expectations for achievement in grades 6–8. Both OpenSciEd and Twig Science Next Gen programs support these standards. Learn more about NGSS below.
