2022-24 Biology Adoption

In August 2022, a Biology adoption was announced. Further updates will be posted here as the process proceeds.

Explore Biology Materials

In Winter 2023-24, we piloted two programs for new high school biology instructional materials: OpenSciEd Biology and BSCS: Understanding for Life. We plan to adopt one of these programs as our official high school biology curriculum. Both programs have print and online resources and are available in English and Spanish.

We want to hear from you

We would love to hear your thoughts on how these two programs might meet the needs of our students and community and how they can be improved. Learn more about these two programs below and share your feedback.

Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)

These standards enable teachers to offer all students interactive instruction that promotes analysis and interpretation of data, critical thinking, problem solving, and connections across science disciplines — with a high set of expectations for achievement in grades 9-12. Both OpenSciEd Biology and BSCS: Understanding for Life programs support these standards for K-12 science that have been adopted as the Washington State Science Learning Standards.
