Backhoes and bulldozers are hard at work this month at Sylvester Middle School. Materials for a stormwater retention system are ready. By the end of summer, Sylvester Middle School students and community can look forward to a synthetic turf field and a new track surface (bye-bye red dust), along with a modular restroom and a soccer mini-pitch.
The Seattle Sounders/RAVE Foundation are partnering with us on the soccer mini-pitch. The restroom will be partly funded by a grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce.
The synthetic turf field will be funded with 2022 school bond dollars as promised. The current project budget is $3,321,700.
Funding includes $20,000 earmarked for this field by the Tin Room’s Dan House back in 2018, when he was recognized by Key Bank for giving back to our community. Key Bank donated in his name for his dream project through the Highline Schools Foundation. Now we get to put this donation to work. Enjoy this 2018 Key Bank video story about the presentation of this check to Dan and his community service.
