HHS Students Cut the Ribbon at Olympic Interim Site

Student cuts ribbon at Olympic Interim Site.

Surprised. Pleased. Excited. Those are the words our students, families, teachers and community members used to describe their feelings about our freshly renovated Olympic Interim Site at the ribbon cutting and open house May 2!

HHS student Andrea Talamantes cut the ribbon, flanked by other students, co-principals Tremain Holloway and Clint Sallee, School Board President Bernie Dorsey and School Board Member Joe Van, plus Capital Facilities Advisory Committee Co-chairs Rose Clark and Aaron Garcia.

Speakers repeatedly thanked our voters for planning ahead and creating an interim site for Highline High School and for our other aging high schools and middle schools in need of replacement.

We appreciate all who came to support our staff and students, including Rep. Tina Orwall, City of Des Moines councilmembers, City of Burien Police Chief Ted Boe and 2016 Highline Citizens for Schools Chair Chuck Tuman.

After the ribbon cutting, families, staff, neighbors and community members toured the campus to check out the main gym, auxiliary gym, locker rooms, cafeteria, music room, main office, library and multiple classrooms, including two of the new science classrooms. Attendees could see into the art, ceramics, computer technology and woodshop classrooms.

Incoming ninth-grade students and families were invited to a family night and tour that evening at the interim site.
