Lottery Selects 8 New Members of Capital Facilities Advisory Committee

Lottery Selects 8 New Members of Capital Facilities Advisory Committee
2 Highline staff members select names by lottery for CFAC members.

We welcome eight new members to our community-led Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC). From a lottery drawing on September 28, eight Highline residents were selected by service area from the names of 28 who entered the lottery for open seats on the Capital Facilities Advisory Committee:

  • Sue Blazak
  • Mona Davey
  • Charles Duncan
  • Indira Hazbic
  • Richard Kennedy
  • Susanna Livi
  • Aundria Preece
  • Briana Renzetti

CFAC is the committee that recommended the successful 2016 and 2022 bonds, which are rebuilding schools and funding critical repairs and improvements districtwide. The 2016 bond funded the construction of new schools for Des Moines Elementary, Glacier Middle School and Highline High School, as well as the renovation of the Olympic site as an interim school site. The 2022 bond is funding new schools in progress at Evergreen High School and Tyee High School (planned to open fall 2025), and the construction of a new Pacific Middle School (planned to open fall 2027).

This school year, the committee will continue its work toward additional community recommendations for future facilities to serve the needs of our students.

The first meeting of the committee for the CFAC 2023-24 school year is this Wednesday, October 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the district Central Office boardroom at 15675 Ambaum Blvd S in Burien. The public is welcome to observe all CFAC meetings.

Future topics of focus for CFAC members will include:

  1. Reviewing the priority list of projects using Highline’s Equity Lens tool, prior to recommending a future bond package.

  2. Receiving updates regarding:
    • Capital projects & educational programming
    • New strategic plan
    • Enrollment trends

About half of CFAC members are selected by lottery and half are appointed by local community organizations, district labor unions and local governments. Find out more about CFAC meetings and membership.
