New Classrooms Coming to North Hill

New Classrooms Coming to North Hill

Find Out Why, Where & When

This summer, North Hill Elementary will get an additional building housing three new classrooms as well as restrooms. The new, free-standing building is a permanent, customized modular unit constructed off-site. It is not a portable and not temporary.

What is the approximate construction timeline?

  • May 20: Construction fencing goes up and surveying begins, followed by work to prepare a building pad and install underground utilities.

  • June 24: Work on the foundation begins. This is a month-long process to create the foundation and set the building.

  • July/August:  Custom, modular building arrives, is installed on permanent foundation and finish work begins. Utility work continues, to provide services to the new building.

  • September 4: School begins with three 5th-grade classrooms in the new building.

Why is North Hill getting an additional building?

Highline was awarded a grant from the state Legislature to fund construction of 13 new classrooms. This provides classroom space to lower class size in kindergarten through third grade. At North Hill, this allows space to add three additional classrooms (kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade) in the main building.

North Hill is one of four Highline elementary schools getting additional classrooms. District staff selected the schools based on projected growth, current needs, available space on site and access to utilities.

What is the location and layout of the new building?

The new building will be located west of the north wing of the main building. The construction area will be kept secure and fenced off.

The entry doors will open into a foyer area that leads to the three classrooms, the restrooms and additional workspace. Check out the site plan:
