Commerce Grant Helps Fund Modular Classroom Building
Preschool students will have access to a new space at Valley View Early Learning Center next fall.
We are replacing three old portable classrooms with a new modular classroom building.
The permanent structure will house three classrooms, each with its own restroom, for students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP).
The project is funded in part by a $776,640 grant from the Department of Commerce Early Learning Facilities program.
At 56 feet by 68 feet, the new building could provide space for 108 half-day students (if divided into morning and afternoon sessions). It replaces several out-of-service portable buildings, which will be demolished.
Designed similar to the modular classrooms installed at Hilltop, North Hill, and White Center Heights elementary schools several years ago, the project includes a few accessibility upgrades. The existing ramp from the back of the school to the playground will be replaced to meet ADA standards. Upgraded sidewalk pathways will connect the additional building to the parking lot and integrate it with the rest of the campus.
The project is currently moving through the permitting process. WillScott is the modular vendor, who will construct and install the building.
We anticipate the modular preschool building will be installed this summer and be ready to use in the fall. It will be located in the grass field east of the existing school and play area.
Valley View Early Learning Center is at 17622 46th Avenue South in SeaTac.
