Southern Heights Fire Forces Move & Renovation Work
What’s all the construction activity at the Original Beverly Park Elementary School Site at 11427 3rd Avenue South?
Our Southern Heights Site was significantly damaged by a fire the morning of July 10. The main office and gym (100 building) are a total loss and are slated to be demolished in the coming weeks.
Southern Heights was home to two of our secondary schools — Innovation Heights Academy and Highline Virtual Academy. Due to the extent of fire and water damage at Southern Heights, we had to quickly identify a new location to serve our students and staff in the 2024-25 school year.
A crew from Forma Construction is working seven days a week to renovate the 1950 Original Beverly Park Site. Our top priority is to provide students and staff with a safe and comfortable learning environment by the first day of school in September.
We are working with our insurance company for reimbursement and anticipate that most costs will be covered.
The Old Beverly Park Site has been used most recently for storage and an after-school program managed by an outside organization. Crews are renovating the space to to meet the needs of both schools.
Renovations include cleaning, adding restroom accessibility, painting, installing new flooring, and making electrical and plumbing improvements. This is not an exhaustive list of the planned renovations.
Renovation crews are working from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and part of Sunday between now and the start of the school year. Some renovation work will continue in the evenings and weekends after the school year begins. We expect renovation work to continue through January.
Superintendent Ivan Duran expressed thanks to all who are working hard to renovate the Original Beverly Park Site as well as our neighbors and community. "We appreciate the support of our neighbors at both sites, our school board and our community as we pivot our facility plans to support our students and staff."
