Ribbon Cutting & Farewells

Highline High School leaders and district Capital Construction staff pose for a photo at Olympic Interim Site.

3 Milestones to Mark in Highline

This spring we are celebrating a ribbon cutting, hosting two farewell events and beginning the countdown to the grand openings of new schools.

Our capital construction projects are full steam ahead, thanks to the investment made by our community. You are invited to help celebrate our progress and honor the memories made, learning achieved and relationships built in our two oldest school buildings.

Join us for three celebrations happening this spring:

Construction Timeline

We are on schedule to open the new, larger Des Moines Elementary School and the new Glacier Middle School this fall. Stay tuned for information on grand opening celebrations.

After school ends in June, Highline High School will relocate to the renovated Olympic Interim Site.

In July, Skanska Construction will begin demolition work at Highline High School. Once demolition and early site work are complete, we will announce a groundbreaking ceremony.

Keep Track of Construction Progress

  • Check our school construction news articles for photos and information.

  • Read the monthly Keeping Our Promise e-newsletter sent to all staff and families, plus community members who sign up.

Looking to the Future

Architects will be selected through a competitive process this month to design our new Evergreen and Tyee high schools and a new Pacific Middle School. Construction will be funded by a future school bond.

The community-led Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) meets April 24 with the goal of finalizing a bond package to recommend to the school board. Read a summary of their March meeting.
