School Board Adopts Revised School Boundaries for Highline

New boundaries will take effect fall 2019

On Wednesday, June 28, the school board adopted a new set of school boundaries within Highline Public Schools. The plan was developed by the community-led Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC). The revised boundaries will take effect fall 2019.

The approved boundary maps and school feeder pattern reflect the revisions recommended by the committee after considering public feedback and suggestions received from 10 community meetings and an online survey.

Families affected by these changes will receive notification by mail in October.

New boundaries were necessary because we are building two new schools to relieve overcrowding and lower class sizes in elementary schools.

“By setting new boundaries a year ahead, families have time to adjust to the changes prior to fall 2019. This also allows time for our staff to plan to support students and families who are impacted by school changes,” said School Board President Joe Van.

“We want to thank the committee members from our community who spent countless hours working toward a boundary plan for our district,” he said.

The new boundaries incorporate the two new schools under construction and accommodate the transition of 6th grade to middle school beginning in fall 2019. Highline’s fifth middle school, Glacier Middle School, is being built in SeaTac. A new, larger Des Moines Elementary School is being built at the district’s Zenith Park site. Both new schools will open fall 2019.
