The new Pacific Middle School building is rising as structural steel outlines its shape.
A tall crane is installing steel columns, beams and floor decking for the main gym, auxiliary gym and classroom wing. Crews erected the first steel beams in mid-December.
The classroom wing will run along South 227th Place on the south side of the site. The gym is located in the northwest area of the site. The main entrance is not visible yet but will face east toward South 227th Place.
Crews continue pouring concrete slabs, moving east toward 24th Avenue South. The first concrete slab for a second-floor metal deck was poured this week. It will become the base of the second-floor auxiliary gym.
Crews have completed 70 of the project’s 146 geothermal wells, each drilled 350 feet deep. Work continues underground on the mechanical and electrical rooms, as well as the manifold that will connect the geothermal loop to the ground-source heat pump and HVAC system. This system will provide energy-efficient heating and cooling.
Next: Exterior wall framing is expected to begin in February.
This voter-approved 2022 bond project is on time and on budget.
