New Modular Building to Open September 2025
Progress is underway for the new Transportation building, which will soon replace the outdated facilities used by our bus drivers and dispatchers.
The land use permit for the project is submitted, and we continue to finalize building details.
The team is collaborating with ATCO, a modular builder, to finalize the window package.
The new building will be constructed west of the current transportation offices and bus garage, in what is now a parking area. A civil engineer has completed grading plans for ADA-accessible sidewalks.
Once complete, this building will provide a unified space for our transportation staff. It will bring our bus drivers, currently in the World War II-era building, together with dispatchers and other team members, currently based in a small concrete block building.
The project team plans to meet with staff to discuss interior finishes for the new building. They’ll also review a temporary parking plan with security staff and a landscape architect.
ATCO is preparing to submit modular building plans to the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries for permitting.
This new facility marks a significant improvement for our transportation team and will enhance service capabilities. Replacing Building L was specifically called out in the 2016 school bond, as recommended by our community-led Capital Facilities Advisory Committee.
