Intervention Resources

Substance use prevention starts with supporting the whole child—emotionally, physically, and socially—before challenges become crises. At Highline, we work together with families, schools, and community partners to help students stay connected, make informed choices, and build lifelong resilience.

Early intervention plays a critical role. It means noticing when a student may be struggling and providing timely support—before those struggles lead to more serious problems.

Our schools support prevention and early intervention through:

• Health Education: Lessons on the risks of nicotine, alcohol, cannabis, fentanyl, and other substances

• SBIRT Program: Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment at Evergreen, Mount Rainier, Tyee, and all five middle schools

• Choose You Campaign: A youth wellness initiative that promotes healthy choices and peer leadership

• Mental Health & Wellness Instruction: Delivered through health classes and enrichment activities

• Teen Link and SOS: Signs of Suicide programs that help students recognize signs of distress and seek help

Students benefit most when caring adults notice changes early and take action. If you're unsure how to support your student, reach out to your school counselor. Early support can make a lifelong difference.

• Teen Link – Call or text 1-866-TEENLINK (833-6546) between 6:00–9:30 PM daily to speak with a trained teen volunteer.Offers a confidential help line and searchable support group directory for teens and families. Search by topic or need—including:

  • Substance use

  • Mental health

  • Grief and loss

  • LGBTQIA+ support

Highline is committed to helping students and families access support for quitting nicotine, vaping, or other tobacco use. Whether you’re just starting to explore quitting or actively looking for tools and resources, help is available.

  A free digital program that helps teens and young adults build a quit plan and track progress.

  Offers free support and resources for quitting nicotine and vaping—available by phone, text, or online chat.

Quitting is a process—and no one has to do it alone. Encourage your student to talk with a school nurse or counselor for additional support or referrals.
