Discrimination
Highline School District does not discriminate in any programs or activities on the basis of race, religion, creed, color, national origin, age, honorably discharged veteran or military status, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression and identity, marital status, the presence of any sensory, mental or physical disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a person with a disability. This holds true for all students who are interested in participating in educational programs and/or extracurricular activities. Highline Public Schools also provide equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
Sexual Harassment
Students and staff are protected against sexual harassment by anyone in any school program or activity, including on the school campus, on the school bus, or off-campus, such as a school-sponsored field trip.
Highline Public Schools is committed to a positive and productive education, free from discrimination, including sexual harassment. Sexual harassment means unwelcome conduct or communication of a sexual nature. This commitment extends to all students involved in academic, educational, extracurricular, athletic, and other programs or activities of the school, whether that program or activity is in a school facility, on school transportation, or at a class or school training held elsewhere. The district prohibits sexual harassment of students by other students, employees, or third parties involved in school district activities.
Gender Inclusive Schools
The Highline School Board believes in fostering an educational environment that is safe and free of discrimination for all students, regardless of sex, gender identity or gender expression. To that end, the board recognizes the importance of an inclusive approach toward transgender and gender-expansive students with regard to key terms, the use of names and pronouns, student records, confidential health and education information, communication, restroom and locker room use and accessibility, sports and physical education, dress codes and other school activities, in order to provide these students with an equal opportunity for learning and achievement.
