Connecting to the Internet

To connect your Chromebook to the Internet, use a compatible Wi-Fi network.

Step 1: Turn on Wi-Fi

1. At the bottom right, select the time.
2. Select Not Connected.
   Note: If you see your Wi-Fi name and signal strength, your Chromebook is already connected to Wi-Fi.
3. Turn on Wi-Fi
4. Your Chrome book will automatically look for networks and show you a list.
    

Step 2: Select an open network or connect to a secure network

Option A: Select an open Wi-Fi network (no lock symbol)

Note: Remember your information might be visible to other people on this network.

Option B:  Connect to a secure Wi-Fi network (includes lock symbol)

1. Select the secure Wi-Fi network (includes lock symbol)
2. Type the network password or contact the network administrator.
3. Select Connect.

1. Select the network icon on the taskbar.
2. Select the Wi-Fi network you want and Connect.
3. If it is a secure network (with a lock symbol), type the network password, then click Next. (Or contact the network administrator if you do not know the password.)
4. If it is not a secure network, choose Yes or No to indicate if you want your PC to be discoverable by other devices on the network,

 

1. Go to the Start menu and select Control Panel.
2. Click the Network and Internet category, and then select Network and Sharing Center.
3. From the options on the left-hand side, select the Change adapter settings.
4. Right-click on the icon for Wireless Connection, and click Enable.

Connect to an open Wi-Fi network or connect to a secure Wi-Fi network.

Open (non-secure) Wi-Fi Network

Click the Network Connection icon in the menu bar and choose a network. If Wi-Fi is off, then select Turn Wi-Fi On.

Note: If you connect to a public Wi-Fi network, a window might appear with terms and conditions you are asked to agree to before you can connect.

Secure Wi-Fi Network

Secure Wi-Fi networks are password protected and have a lock symbol next to their names.

1. Click Network Connection in the menu bar. If Wi-Fi is off, then choose Turn Wi-Fi On.
2. Choose a network.
3. Enter the password, then click Join. If you don't know the password to the Wi-Fi network, contact the network administrator.

 

Step 1

You’ll need a Power Cable, a Display port cable, a USB mouse and keyboard, and an Ethernet cable.

Step 2

Plug in Power Cable into the back of the Desktop unit.

Step 3

Plug in Display Cable into the back of the Desktop unit.

Step 4

Plug in USB mouse and Keyboard.

Step 5

Plug in Ethernet cable into the back of the Desktop unit.

Step 6

District Desktops do not have wireless capabilities, so the other end of the ethernet cable will need to be plugged into a modem or router at home.
