Biomedical Research & Global Health
About the Program
Have you ever wondered what it is like to work in a research lab? Are you interested in a science or healthcare career? In this class, hands-on lab experiences will give you an authentic introduction to the research process. We will learn lab safety and research protocols, use state-of-the-art equipment to conduct experiments, and review case studies related to the prevention and elimination of disease. Learn how to extract and analyze DNA, use a microscope, grow and identify bacteria, work with model organisms and conduct experiments in genetic engineering and immunology. Guest lectures from scientists and field trips to local research organizations will give you an inside look into careers in this exciting and rapidly growing field. Grab a lab coat and come do some science with us!
Meet the Instructor
I discovered my love for STEM education and research as a graduate student at the University of Washington in Seattle. After receiving my PhD in Biology, I spent several years teaching at The Evergreen State College and the Seattle Central College. I joined the Science Education Department at Seattle Children’s in 2017 because I was excited to help launch the innovative Biomedical Research & Global Health program here at PSSC. My mission is to inspire, support, and develop future scientists and healthcare leaders.
