Highline Public Schools plans to adopt new materials for language arts--and we want your input! Your voice is important as we select new Language Arts instructional materials for kindergarten through 12th grade.

This past spring our language arts curriculum adoption committees reviewed many curricular tools and narrowed down the options to two finalists: Ready Gen and American Reading Company (ARC) for K-5.

Your feedback will inform the committee’s recommendation to the school board in February. Materials will be introduced in the 2021-22 school year.

This virtual space allows families and community members to preview curricular materials under review. Please submit feedback using the surveys linked at the bottom of each section.

American Reading Company's comprehensive core curriculum integrates reading, writing, science and social studies into a student-centered learning environment. Their college-prep, project-based learning process and leveled research libraries ensure all students build knowledge, regardless of their current reading levels. ReadyGEN is an integrated and balanced approach to reading and writing instruction. ReadyGEN places content rich and culturally relevant picture books and novels into the hands of every student. Students engage in authentic reading opportunities that are developed with academic rigor in mind and provide scaffolded support so all students can access complex text. Units center around meaningful, real-world concepts and ideas that promote deep discussion and motivate learners to make connections within their own lives. With ReadyGEN, students will continue to grow their love of reading and writing in both English and Spanish classrooms.
