bilingual Teaching Fellows Program

The deadline for this cohort has passed. This page will be updated with the next application cycle information by Fall 2024.

The Bilingual Teaching Fellows program is a Grow-Your-Own teaching pathway designed for paraeducators, who are proficient in one of our target languages (Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali), to earn a bachelor’s in education and teaching certification. Fellows work in elementary school settings while taking courses with Western WA University (WWU) in the evening. This program is two years long and prepares students to work as dual language teachers in elementary schools.

Eligibility

Current employees and new applicants are encouraged to apply. In order to be eligible, you must:

  • Demonstrate a high level of language skills in English and Spanish, Vietnamese or Somali
  • Possess or close to completing a transferable associate's degree
  • WEST-B scores (We can help you complete this assessment!)

Timeline

Our June 2024 start date deadline has passed. This page will be updated with the next application cycle information by fall 2024.

Preparation

Please reach out if you are interested in a future cohort! We can work together to ensure the courses you are taking will transfer into the university.

Cost

Through a state grant awarded to WWU and partnering school districts, Fellows are eligible to receive a conditional loan to support tuition. Financial aid advising and resources will be available to students through the university.
