This fall, we asked students and families for input on what you value most about Highline and what we can do to make it better. Families shared their thoughts on a wide range of topics. The greatest number of comments were on our educational programs--ranging from homework to curriculum to special education. We appreciate the many positive comments about our staff.
Some of the most highly rated thoughts were around student behavior, safety and bullying. Highline is not alone in this. Schools across the nation report an increase in incidents.
The safety and well-being of our students and staff are paramount. Meeting students' social-emotional-behavioral needs is a high priority. In addition to our existing behavior supports, we have secured a $1.5 million grant from the Kaiser Foundation to fund new staff positions and supports for student mental health. We are also working with our teachers' union to ensure teachers are supported.
