Childcare for Healthcare Workers & First Responders

We are providing basic childcare for healthcare workers and first responders. Children must be currently enrolled in grades Pre-K through 5 in a Highline school.

Childcare services will be provided 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during weekdays at Midway Elementary and White Center Heights Elementary.

Pre-registration is required. Registration for childcare must be submitted by noon on Friday, April 3.

Childcare is staffed by Highline Public Schools employees at a 9:1 ratio and supervised by Highline administrators. Students will be separated into small groups to minimize contact. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Healthcare workers, as defined by the Washington State Medical Association, are people who work in any setting where healthcare services, long-term care, long-term services and supports, or personal care are delivered.

First responders include firefighters, law enforcement officers, and emergency medical personnel licensed or certificated by the state.

Why Offer Childcare

Wondering why we offer childcare when schools are closed?

Like a lot of things in this public health crisis, it doesn't seem to make sense on the surface.

Governor Inslee has mandated that school districts provide childcare for healthcare workers and first responders. Public health authorities say this is necessary to ensure our community has enough medical and emergency professionals to take care of everyone who is ill, and they have laid out guidelines to protect the health of adults and children.
