Secondary School Day

Instructional Model

Our secondary hybrid model minimizes the impact on the class schedule and teacher/student assignments. Students will have the same teachers and class schedules unless their teacher takes a leave.

Secondary students will be in school buildings two days per week for live in-person instruction. Three days per week will be fully remote at home. Students will be assigned to Cohort A or Cohort B. This assignment determines which days they will attend school in person.

  • Cohort A attends school Monday and Tuesday.
  • Cohort B attends school Thursday and Friday

Wednesday will be a remote learning day for both cohorts. School buildings will be thoroughly cleaned on Wednesdays between cohorts.

Secondary Schedule

Teachers will work with in-person and remote students during the same instructional period, but not necessarily simultaneously. Teachers will have flexibility to design the structure of the 80-minute period. Teachers may choose to instruct in-person and remote students at the same time or in separate groups while other students are working independently.

Schedule for In-School Day

Wednesdays will be fully remote for all students.

Start and End Times

School start and end times for middle and high schools will be 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Class times for Big Picture, CHOICE, PSSC and New Start may differ slightly due to transportation schedules. We will provide more information as soon as possible.

PSSC Start/End Times

  • Session 1: 7:55 - 9:55 a.m.
  • Session 2: 10:25 a.m. - 12:25 p.m.
  • Session 3: 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

New Start High School

9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

In the two-day-per-week model, we can provide middle and high school students with bus transportation. That would not have been feasible in a half-day model.

If you qualify for transportation, you can find your route information on our transportation website. Please check again after April 16 for any final changes. If you need support, please reach out to the transportation department at 206.631.7502.

School Meals

All secondary students will have the opportunity to take one breakfast and one lunch per day when at school at no cost. Meals are “grab and go,” and menus are posted at

Students may also choose to bring their own food from home.

To protect students and staff from exposure to COVID-19, campuses are closed and students will not allowed to leave for lunch.

Students will be seated six feet apart in the cafeteria or other designated seating areas, including outdoor areas.

Meal Kit Pick-up

For secondary students on campus two days a week, a five-day meal kit will be available at most secondary sites each Wednesday. For fully remote students, seven-day meal kits are available each Wednesday and Thursday.

Please preorder meal kits online up to 5:00 a.m. on the day of pick up.  Check here for current pick-up locations, times and days.

Students with Food Allergies

You can search for allergens in meals on the Nutrition Services webpage. If you need an accommodation for an allergy, please complete the form found on the webpage and submit it to the school nurse. Our district dietitian will confirm the information with a parent/guardian and note the start date for changes.
