Starting in September 2021, we plan to reopen schools for in-person instruction for students in Pre-K through grade 12. Families who are unable to send their children to school in person due to family health concerns may select a remote learning program for the 2021-22 school year. Please take a moment to fill out the 2021-22 learning selection form to commit to in-person or fully remote learning for the 2021-22 school year.
Maritime High School
If you are an incoming 9th-grade student and interested in applying to Maritime High School for the 2021-2022 school year, you can apply for admission through Schoolmint.
Maritime High School is a new small high school opening in September 2021 with its first 9th-grade class. Maritime is a collaborative project of Highline Public Schools, Northwest Maritime Center, Port of Seattle, and the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition, with many community and industry partners engaged to support our students.
Student learning will center on the environment, marine science, and maritime careers working on or near the water. To do this, students will engage in integrated projects, learning across all high school content areas.
A typical week at Maritime will include time in the classroom, virtual (distance) instruction from home, and frequent field experiences and boat-based learning. In the 11th- and 12th-grade years, students will participate in internships to gain workforce skills and knowledge.
Students will engage in project-based learning, working with teachers, community partners and industry experts in hands-on experiences; an innovative transcript will demonstrate their learning across all academic subject areas.
By graduation, students will have skills to launch a Maritime career, and will also be ready to continue studying in a 2 or 4-year college. Regardless of a student’s life path, attendance in this school will increase their understanding of the natural world, increase their competency in practical skills, and offer them a greater awareness of the career opportunities of the sea and beyond.
Student Information Sessions
Information sessions for Maritime High School have passed. Please view the below information session recording.
We want to hear and learn from students. Does your student have something to share about their experience as a student in Highline? We are seeking students to share their experiences at the 2021 Highline Equity Symposium on Tuesday, August 24.
Next fall, we plan to reopen schools for in-person instruction five full days a week for students in Pre-K through grade 12, as long as public health authorities continue to support in-person learning.
As recommended by the CDC and Washington State Department of Health, we will require three-foot distancing, face masks and other safety measures. Families will be able to choose a remote option.
Highline’s summer school programs are an opportunity for students to strengthen and build upon their knowledge, makeup credits, and keep their minds active during summer break.
Over 3,000 parents/guardians and 3,200 students shared their feedback in our spring survey. Here are some themes and highlights.
Please return to this website as more information is posted and events are planned.
