Oversight Committee Receives Construction Progress Updates

Oversight Committee Receives Construction Progress Updates

After a school bond is approved by voters, Highline's Capital Projects Oversight Committee tracks bond spending and project progress. This group of local industry experts meets quarterly to review bond project financial reports and ask questions. This committee has been active since the 2016 bond was approved.

All 2022 bond projects remain on track and within budget.

Meeting Summary: August 10, 2026

Below is a summary of updates the Oversight Committee received during the meeting.

PACIFIC MIDDLE SCHOOL

Construction on the new Pacific Middle School remains on schedule and on budget. Site work continues with installation of the stormwater detention system, an underground system that manages rainwater on site. The building exterior is nearing completion, with roofing, brickwork, exterior panels and window installation progressing across the campus.

Inside the building, construction has moved into the finishes phase. Painting is underway on the third floor. On the second floor, painting, floor polishing and window installation have begun. Drywall finishing and preparation for mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems continue on the first floor.

Next, crews will continue interior finishes, complete remaining exterior work and begin preparations for furnishing the new school. Staff walkthroughs are anticipated this fall as the building nears completion.

MOUNT RAINIER HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS COURTS

Plans are moving forward to replace the Mount Rainier High School tennis courts. The existing courts have experienced recurring cracking.

The existing courts will be replaced with a reinforced concrete court system. Unlike traditional asphalt courts, this type of surface is built for added strength and durability, helping it last better over time.

During construction, students will use the Sunnydale tennis courts located near Highline High School.
