Young Female Students Explore College Opportunities
Chinook Students visit South Seattle College and tour aviation class space.
Young female students are getting a sneak peak at college opportunities thanks to a partnership with Techbridge, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring girls in science, technology, and engineering.
Over the last few months, Techbridge has taken nearly 200 female students from several elementary and middle schools in Highline on field trips to visit local colleges. Students learned about the various opportunities that are available at South Seattle College, Renton Technical College, and Highline College.
“I didn’t know there were this many opportunities at a two-year college,” reflected one student during her visit to Renton Technical College.

During visits, students went on campus tours, met with female student role models, and participated in an engineering design activity led by Techbridge. Students also witnessed a 3D printer in action while visiting a computer engineering class.
Next, students will visit several tech companies to learn more about career fields, including Facebook, Google, Moz, University of Washington, and #tagboard.
Techbridge hopes these experiences will inspire female students to pursue careers in science, technology, or engineering.
