Valley View/Mount Rainier Early Learning Center is a unique educational facility that exclusively offers preschool programs to over 300 students in the Highline area between the ages of three and five years old.
ECEAP (Early Childhood Education Assistance Program)
Valley View serves approximately 200 families in the state-funded ECEAP early learning program. An additional ECEAP site based at Mount Rainier High School serves 36 families.
ECEAP staff are dedicated to creating a center of excellence so that participating children will enter kindergarten with the cognitive, language and literacy skills that will provide the foundation they need for reading and school success. Our preschool teachers and instructional assistants participate in professional development workshops, receive individual coaching and mentoring, utilize the Opening the World of Learning literacy curriculum, and integrate research-based instructional strategies. Every teacher and instructional assistant is a member of a professional learning community that meets twice a month.
All ECEAP families partner directly with an on-site family support worker. Together they establish family goals, identify needed resources, and plan for the success of the student and family. Over 70% of our children come from families where English is not the primary language. Bilingual assistants support the children in their classrooms while interpreter services are available to the families in 18 different languages.
